About ukrwords

The ukrwords are proposed to focus your attention on. They may belong to a number of famous national varieties of crossword puzzles such as American, Estonian, German, etc., but have their difference. Ukrwords solving is based on the principle to write an answer to a dictionary or author entry correctly and in the appropriate fields as it is in most crossword puzzles, including the puzzles with national nuance. However the ukrword has two fundamental differences at least: the circle shape is used (the formal feature) and the need of the clue-answer extra search for the whole ukrword is added to the obvious encyclopedic of most famous crosswords (the semantic feature). They are original by formal and semantic feature.

The correct spelling of the answer words to the entries into the appropriate fields is an algorithm of the ukrword solution. The name of the author of the expression can be read as a final result of this inserting. The name " will become apparent " within the wide circle of the expression that underlies the ukrword.

Most of the puzzle entries are taken from different dictionaries of Ukrainian language: 1. Dictionary of the Ukrainian language (SUM) in 11 volumes. 2. Electronic Dictionary http://www.slovnyk.net 3. Great Dictionary of the Ukrainian language (with annexes and additions) / V.T. Busel is compiler and editor in chief. -Kyiv:, Irpin: publishing house "Perun", 2005. - 1728 p. Some puzzle entries are compiled by the author of the ukrwords design himself.

The solution of this type of crosswords is to identify the name (surname) of the author of the expression that is read inside of the circle correctly. Either you need to remember the name of the author of the expression and immediately insert it into the circle (line) within the expression or (and this is a long way) to solve each entry added to the ukrword to accomplish the crossword properly. There could not be more entries beside the ukrword than the letters in the name of the author of the expression: number of the letters in the name equals the number of the entries. There is a letter-tip in the expression, that is at the heart of the ukrword, that fits the solution word of each entry. It can be either first or second (third) or the last or penultimate (pre-penultimate) letter of the entry answer word depending on the context. The letter-tip from the expression that underlies the ukrword directs a solver in the accuracy of his answers. Figures in cells indicating the beginning of the answer words to the single entries are promptings too. If an answer word to the entry begins from the letter within the puzzle expression the figure will stand outside of the author's expression near that letter from which the answer word begins. This letter is indeed the prompt. If the answer word to the entry ends with the letter from the riddle expression or this letter is the penultimate (pre-penultimate) then the figure-tip is within the expression of which author's name should be guessed. The figure is at the beginning of a word always. Let’s consider an example.

1. Легке, розбірне, переважно конусоподібне житло з тканини, шкіри і т. ін.; намет.

2. Вищий ступінь порівняння до прислівника важко.

The famous phrase of Ukrainian literature classical author  "В своїй хаті своя й правда, і сила, і воля" in the form of the ukrword.

Looking at the structure you could say that the answer name will be put down within the main saying in a line consisting of eight cells (no other line in the "button" is composed of eight cells – it is hard to go wrong). They might be counted. The answer word to the first entry begins from the place where the figure 1 is. The last name, and the answer to the whole ukrword, starts from the same cell. You could say that the first answer word begins from the cell, where figure 1 is, the word has five letters, and the last letter of the word is "o".

Indeed, the correct answer to the first entry about the conical housing made of cloth is "шатро". This answer word consisting of the five letters fits into the boxes from the figure 1 to the letter "o", which is the last in the word. This is the very letter that is a letter-tip in the text of the expression-riddle. This letter directs the solver. Now you could say that the name of the classic begins from the letter "Ш" with certainty when the first word is guessed. In the same way are solved all the entries of the puzzle, and consequently, after filling in every cell of the ukrword, you are able to read the saying author's name entirely. The filled out ukrword-example takes the form of:

So, as we might see the name of the author of the expression is "Шевченко".

This last name, and the answer, is the ultimate goal of solving the ukrword.

Ukrwords can be used both for educational purposes and for entertainment. In the first case, the task represented in the form of the ukrword to students can serve as an excellent introduction to a new author, in fact, to his last name. Students in playing manner "open" the new name. A well-chosen expression of the author may give the first at least general description of his (her) creative search.

In addition, ukrwords might be used as a tool for checking the general level of intelligence. It is known that the need to look and collate with a dictionary takes time. Such ukrwords can serve as material for testing the level of students preparation for the class: who will succeed to guess the ukrword faster probably is better prepared for because he does not need to look into the dictionary which can lie on the table during the test.

Naturally, ukrwords for children are a simplified version of the true ones. Their task is to guess an ukrword-riddle too. But the answer is not the name of the author of the expression but the usual answer word to the riddle which, however, is presented in a circle as the usual ukrword. Instead of the puzzle entries near the child ukrword is given ready words to properly fit into the fields of the children's construction. And the answer word will become apparent inside of the circle of the riddle.
